BLU View Mega (B110DL) smartphone released in 2019. It is a budget phone that is trying their luck with a relatively unknown name. In short, it relies on its ultra-cheap price tag to attract customers.

But make no mistake, BLU View Mega is not without several interesting features on its specs list. For one thing, the phone features a 6-inch display. It’s quite big for a budget smartphone.

Other features to consider include the decent processor setup. Then there’s the 13MP rear camera too. The battery is not big on paper, but we’ll see how it performs in this BLU View Mega review.

BLU View Mega Design

BLU View Mega is a phone measuring at 167 x 77.9 x 9.3mm in dimension and 180g in weight. In a hindsight, it doesn’t look that different from many other phones out there. But upon closer look, we noticed this phone is not the slimmest we ever held. It is quite thick actually. However, it is not heavy.

The design is not what we would call a showstopper. In fact, it falls behind many competitors which have full-screen displays, sleek trendy looks, and thin bezels. In comparison, BLU View Mega looks like a phone from a couple of years ago.

It slightly looks like older Motorola Moto E phones, down to the material it uses. BLU View Mega opted for matte black casing with a rounded back. The edges are dramatically rounded too, giving extra comfort when holding the device.

The logo on the back cover is printed with big fonts. For some people, it can be distracting since it’s too obvious. You can see it from afar. The matte casing is also a magnet for grease and fingerprints. Unless you put a case on it, you would get a messy-looking phone.

Overall there’s nothing special about BLU View Mega design. From the beginning, flashiness is not the priority feature the phone offers to customers. It is simply meant to be functional.

BLU View Mega Display

The 6-inch display is the main strength of BLU View Mega. It is bigger than most similarly-priced competitors. The resolution is also not that bad at 1440 x 720. It means you get an HD+ screen.

This display spec is probably the best you can get for a phone under $70. We couldn’t see 4K videos with it, but the display worked well in everything else. The size makes it comfortable to watch movies and to browse apps.

Pictures are not what you call true-to-life colors, but they still display decent colors with enough sharpness. App icons look good from afar, but upon closer inspection, users will still be able to detect fuzziness.

The LCD display is also responsive to touch. Size could also be an inconvenience since it is hard to operate with one hand. As mentioned earlier, it’s not a full-screen display. Depending on one’s preference, the bezels can be distracting. They are thick especially at the bottom and the top of the screen.

The weakness of the display is more apparent when we use the phone outdoors. The maximum brightness the phone allows you to set cannot fight strong sunlight. You’ll find yourself squinting when looking at the screen on a sunny day.

BLU View Mega Camera

BLU View Mega only has one 13MP camera in the back. If you’re looking for dual-camera phones, this device is not for you. For selfies, it is equipped with an 8MP front-facing camera.

The rear camera takes clear and well-toned pictures. Color reproductions are alright, as long as the surrounding environment has ample lighting. Like in many budget phones, we also detected overexposed results with Blu View Mega.

When taking pictures with clouds in the background, the whites appear washed out. But there are some software tricks in the Camera app like HDR and White balance. They can be useful to enhance photo results.

The camera struggles in low light conditions. Turning on the LED flash helps a little, but you will still spot several blurry objects.

The front-facing camera captures decent photos. Since there’s no flash on the front, picture quality depends on natural lighting too. The details of the pictures lack accuracy, but it won’t be a major problem if you plan on using it for selfies only.

For videos, you can get 1080p recordings with BLU View Mega with 30fps frame rates. Be careful of changing scenes with different brightness in lighting. The lens doesn’t take it well and needs several seconds to adjust.

BLU View Mega Storage

This phone brings 32GB of internal storage. It is an average size and it’s rare for a budget phone to provide more. The module is quite fast when accessing or storing files. And for standard usage, the capacity will be enough.

Access to bigger storage can be done through an SD card. External storage is an option for owners. In this phone, users are allowed to install up to 128GB of microSD cards. It’s not the biggest capacity either among other budget phones. Storage speed is also slower compared to the phone’s internal storage, but not to the point that it’s frustrating.

BLU View Mega Performance

With its Mediatek Helio A22 processor, this phone gives a typical performance level of entry-level phones. The 2GHz processor is not exactly a mind-blowing one, although the processing speed is slightly above average. This quad-core processor is coupled with 2GB of RAM.

We consider the setup to be satisfactory. To be honest, it’s hard to ask for anything more considering the phone’s price. At least the phone is adequately equipped for day-to-day tasks. Users won’t need to worry if their smartphone consumption revolves around communication or chat apps, social media, and video streaming.

Screen navigations are smooth as long as not many apps are open in the background. The only 2GB of RAM can pose as a hindrance. So it’s advisable for owners to be mindful if they want the phone without any lag. Stretching Blu View Mega to its limit can disrupt the performance.

Gaming is still possible with BLU View Mega, although the option is limited. Mildly demanding titles like Temple Run can still run well here. But when tested using a more 3D heavy game, the phone clearly struggles.

The Android 9.0 Pie on this phone is not the latest version either. So it lacks performance optimization and other improvements in the newer version. The good news is, the phone uses a pure version of Android. It is unmodified, clean, and beginner-friendly. Since it is lightweight to the system, the software helps keep the overall phone performance in check.

Aside from the Facebook app, there are not many third-party apps here. The phone is equipped with Google Assistant, although there’s no dedicated button like in Samsung and LG phones. Another accessibility feature we spotted is the hearing aid compatibility with the M3/T3 rating. When it comes to updates, sadly there’s no hint of this phone getting upgraded to Android 10.

We also found that the phone carries several useful sensors. Despite the low price, you can still get an accelerometer and proximity sensor. However, no fingerprint sensor is available, as you might have expected by looking at the back cover. Security features are limited to the usual PIN, password, and pattern.

If we can rate this BLU View Mega review on performance, we score the phone three out of five. There’s nothing extravagant about it, but we also didn’t find any significant drawback. This phone is an average performing phone that’s perfect for super casual users.

BLU View Mega Connectivity

BLU View Mega supports 4G LTE, which is the norm on today’s phone. Used for calls, the connection was superb although voice quality is average. You can still hear muffled noise in the background. There’s also no HD voice option on this phone.

For everything else, there is the standard 802.11 b/g/n WLAN module for the internet. The speed is fairly quick and it’s also easy to connect your phone to an available network. Bluetooth and GPS are also available. You can connect to other devices, and with the GPS, navigational tasks are all covered.

On paper, the 3,000mAh battery on this phone promises up to 12.5 days of standby. It sounds impressive, especially because it’s coupled with 15 hours of talk time. However, real-life usage is far fewer than that.
