If you’re using a TracFone and want the freedom to switch carriers, unlocking your phone is an important step. An unlocked device can be used on compatible networks, making it easier to change providers, travel internationally, or sell your phone later.
TracFone, a Verizon Value brand, offers free unlocking for eligible devices. However, the requirements depend on when your phone was activated and which network it was activated on.
Verizon Value updated its unlocking policy on January 20, 2026, so it’s important to understand the current rules before requesting an unlock.
